Inter Girls win County Combined Athletics event
Students from ÇéÉ«ÎåÔÂÌì competed at the County Combined Events in Stevenage yesterday. Sixteen athletes competed in total, with boys and girls teams in both Junior (Year 8 and 9) and Intermediate (Year 10 and 11) categories. All competitors had to complete a pentathlon during the day. The Junior teams competed in the 80m hurdles, long jump, shot, high jump and 800m; the Intermediate Girls took part in the 80m hurdles, long jump, javelin, 200m and 1500m whilst the Intermediate Boys did the 100m, long jump, discus, javelin and 1500m. Superb performances from the Intermediate Girls team of Hannah Dickins, Georgia West, Becca Jones and Marie Wensel saw them finish the day as champions, whilst the Junior Boys (Brad Simm, Stanley McDowell, Tom Minns and Kai Alland) came 2nd overall. The Intermediate Boys (Josh Greengrow, Oliver Wontner, Luke Simpson and Joe Ainsworth) came 3rd overall and the Junior Girls team (Lauryn Holder, Amelie Royle, Vinita Patel and Scarlett Royle) had an excellent day but did not make the top 3.
There were stand-out performances from individuals: Josh Greengrow finished 5th in the county, whilst Brad Simm and Lauryn Holder both finished 12th in their categories.
Well done to all those who took part!
