Medals for students at British and English Swimming Championships 2018

The 2018 British Summer Swimming Championships were held in Sheffield from 24th – 29th July 2018, followed by the English National Championships until the 4th August. St Clement Danes students Jemima Hall, Jamie Owen, Jamie Irwin and Ketan Rach participated in the championships, and performed brilliantly, including winning gold, silver and bronze medals in various categories.

Year 10 student Ketan Rach, who represented Watford Swimming Club at the British Nationals, competed in the 100 metres backstroke event and achieved 12th place in his category. Ketan also achieved a new  personal best in the 200 metres backstroke event, and achieved 10th place after facing stiff opposition in his category.

Year 11 student Jamie Owen achieved a gold medal for the 800 metres freestyle race, and won bronze medals in both the 400 metres freestyle competition and the 200 individual medley category.

Year 12 student Jemima won silver medals for both the 100 and 200 metres freestyle race at the championships. Jemima also swam a crucial last leg of the 4 x 200 metres relay, contributing to Wycombe District Club winning a bronze medal in this event. Jemima's personal best times in the two individual races were club and county Open records and she was ranked 22nd in the UK over both distances for women of all ages.

Year 13 student Jamie Irwin also gave an exceptional performance winning the bronze medal in the 200 metres in the backstroke category.

All four students attend swimming and gym training sessions multiple times a week in preparation for their competitions, and show incredible commitment to their sport. Congratulations to Jamie, Jemima, Jamie and Ketan on this fantastic success; we wish all four students continuing success for their forthcoming competitions!
