Year 12 Textiles students visit Ciment Pleating Studio

On Thursday, Year 12 Fashion and Textiles students visited the Ciment Pleating Studio as part of their A Level specification.  Pleating is the art of folding fabric in to different shapes creating difference in volume and texture, and features heavily in both of the new GCSE and A Level specifications. Students are required to understand the principles of pleating and show knowledge of the process in their examinations.

Ciment Pleating are the oldest pleating studio in the UK, established in 1925. Their clients include the Her Majesty the Queen, Alexander McQueen and Victoria Beckham; the studio was also involved in creating the championship outfit for Torvill and Dean. The company provides a service for fashion designers, interior designers and also export their products worldwide. The students visited the studio, where they witnessed a live demonstration and were provided with a variety of samples to take home with them. The students and staff described the visit as an engaging and thoroughly enjoyable experience.
