DET Public Speaking Competition

Teams from schools across the Danes Educational Trust met for an evening of high quality public speaking hosted at Croxley Danes.  We were treated to debates on topical subjects chosen by the students including Human Cloning, National Service, Lowering the Voting Age and Euthanasia.

The Junior Team from St Clement Danes came away with the trophy for their speeches debating 'The Olympic Games have become too commericalised', beating Chancellor's by just one point.

Congratulations to On-yu C, Sophie M and Alina T in Year 9.  They were praised by the judges for their clear projection, warm engagement with the audience and confidence.

The Senior Team narrowly missed out on the trophy to Croxley Danes.  However, they should be congratulated for their lively debate on the topic 'Private schools feed the fire of inequality'.  Well done to Kaydance Chu, Nayna Pandya and Matilda Harrison-Maggs, who was also named as best overall speaker of the evening.

All the teams received helpful feedback from the judges.  We welcomed back Anne Pickard (previous Head of English at ÇéÉ«ÎåÔÂÌì) and benefitted from the legal background of Rachel Gauke and huge experience of Ameeta Sabharwal who coordinates the English Speaking Union Churchill speaking competitions in the area.
